Shilo George, MS (she/they) a Southern Cheyenne-Arapaho and Irish/Scottish international speaker and owner of Łush Kumtux Tumtum Consulting, which means “a great awakening of the heart and spirit” in the Chinuk Wawa trade language. Her consulting work covers both trauma informed practices and how those practices align with and support anti-racist and anti-oppression work within organizations and communities. They are a community educator with more than twenty years of experience as a social worker with values rooted in Native cultural and spiritual practices. Shilo praises her communities as the sources of her inspiration, perseverance, and drive.

Shilo is committed to continued learning about the effects of trauma on children, adults, and communities of color and how organizations and government systems can and should be supporting the most marginalized and vulnerable in our communities. She has created a number of trainings and presentations that address systemic oppression, trauma informed care, white supremacy within professional culture, weight stigma in medical systems, and Native American history and culture. Shilo believes it’s imperative that organizations and institutions must become aware and be accountable for the barriers and harm that are relentlessly perpetuating against targeted communities. Then creatively and courageously rethink policies, practices, and procedures to create truly welcoming, just, and healing spaces, programs, and organizational cultures.

She received her Bachelor of Science in Art Practices in 2012 and a Masters of Science in Educational Leadership and Policy with a Specialization in Postsecondary and Adult Continuing Education in 2017, both from Portland State University.

As founder of Łush Kumtux Tumtum Consulting, LLC I provide assessment, educational and consulting services to a broad scope of individuals, organizations, governmental agencies and companies addressing equity and social justice issues, leading with race.

My focus is guiding my clients in deepening their equity work, while undertaking challenges and illuminating gaps in process and perspective. Working collaboratively with courageous leaders, managers and directors, we create and transform traditional workplace systems into structures that champion intersectional equity at all levels of the organization.

I understand how deep-seeded values and assumptions work in harmony with prejudice and connect to and maintain system discrimination. Dismantling how those mechanisms uphold barriers, stigmas and violence is at the crux of my organizational healing work.

Addressing weight bias and stigma within organizations is also foundational to my practice. With a specialization in the medical services industry, I help my clients cultivate a culture of diversity and equity to bring awareness to the harmful effects of weight stigma. Together, we can increase the availability of high quality, weight inclusive services for people of size.
